LAKESIDE RETREAT

Whistler, BC
House, 6400 sq. ft.
Completion: 2013

A young Australian family wanted a mountain home that looked like it had been here for centuries yet were drawn to clean modern lines. CFI accomplished this by applying rustic materials in a contemporary way. The wall stone was chosen to mirror the rock cliffs across the lake, grounding the home in its natural setting. The stone, as most of the materials in the home, were selected with sustainability in mind. The woods used in the cabinetry, millwork and floors are indigenous oak. Windows were produced in Vancouver, stairs and millwork in Whistler /Pemberton, etc. The stone pavers on the lower level are re-purposed street pavers from France, tying in perfectly with the wall stone and achieving the desired seamless transition from the front entrance porch through to the lakeside patio. The design elements are over-scaled yet simplified in form maintaining the cleaner lines of a modern mountain home.
