RUSTIC MODERN

Whistler, BC
House, 3400 sq. ft.
Completion: 2009

CFI was commissioned by an active Australian family to create a rustic contemporary ski cabin. The design concept for the retreat was a modern take on the traditional Canadian log cabin with large VG fir horizontal wall paneling replicating the horizontal timbers of a log structure. The open plan kitchen, living and dining created a large contemporary entertaining area. These areas were linked and defined by the detailing in the ceiling, wall paneling and the large structural log posts. The high ceilings and sheer volume of the rooms within the home allowed for over scaled counters, hardware, fixtures and millwork. All the fixtures and furnishings were designed or chosen for their natural elements and to compliment the rustic modern look.
