THE TREE HOUSE

Whistler, BC
Townhouse, 1400 sq ft
Completion: 2010

Amidst forest and views of mountains and lakes, this multi- leveled townhome has the distinct feeling of being in a tree house. This was the inspiration for the design which employed the use of indigenous Douglas fir for the interior refurbishment, much of which is blow-down from the devastating Stanley Park storm. The stairs, which run up through the central light well, were replaced with open-tread solid fir timbers, which along with simple hand rails and stainless steel cables, amplifies the feeling of climbing up into the bows of a tree. The floor plan was reconfigured to enhance the flow and function while custom millwork was created to cleverly conceal clutter. In keeping with company values environmentally conscious materials were used throughout the home.
